Getting There
From Conway or Little Rock, take I-40 west toward Fort Smith. As you near Morrilton
begin looking for the Petit Jean State Park signs. Take the first Morrilton exit
(Exit 108), which is about 18 miles from UCA and turn left at the stop sign on to AR Hwy
9. Proceed south to Opello about 8 miles from I-40 and turn right on AR Hwy 154.
This road will take you to the park.
When you see Petit Jean Mountain in front of you, think about how it formed. Notice as you drive up to the top how the rock layers are structured. Take a few minutes either before you arrive or after the field trip to stop at the overlook and see the Arkansas River to the east and the Ouachita Mts. to the south.
