Faculty Web Server FTP Information

How do I upload files to my Web site?

  • Open an FTP client and connect to faculty.uca.edu via SFTP on port 22
  • Use your Novell username and password
  • Upload files to the 'web' folder (As with the old server, files outside of 'web' will not be available to the internet)
  • Your site can be accessed at http://faculty.uca.edu/username (Don't worry, anyone linking to http://faculty.uca.edu/~username will be alerted of this change and asked to update their bookmark.)

How much space do I get?

  • Each user has 1GB of Web space

What FTP client can I use?

  • You can use any FTP client that supports a secure FTP (SFTP over SSH2) connection. This includes, but is not limited to, FileZilla, Fetch, FUGU, and recent versions of Dreamweaver. Note: Microsoft FrontPage and Expressions do not have built in support for secure FTP.

Can I still use FrontPage Extensions to update my site?

  • Microsoft FrontPage and Expressions do not have built in support for secure FTP. You can still use them to edit your content, but you will still need an FTP client capable of making a secure FTP connection to the server. One possible solution is to use NetDrive. NetDrive mounts remote storage as a local hard disk on your PC and is free for home use. NetDrive can be downloaded from http://www.netdrive.net/download.html and a tutorial can be found at http://faculty.uca.edu/web/netdrive.php
