Lysistrata Journal (please write in ink or type, double-spacing)-- due Thursday, Sept. 18

1. What is Lysistrata doing, in making peace, that matches the metaphor she uses earlier? (Give the metaphor, and then explain, citing specifics, how what she is doing matches it.) (5 pts.)

2. How is Peace represented on stage (sex, body-type, dress)? When a Spartan says, "We'll take that butte," what are the stage directions? How does representing Peace in this way bear on the question of "power" and whether this play is or is not subversive (as discussed in the essay at the end of the play in our text )? There is no particular "right answer": explain what relationships you see, what associations might be pertinent to a discussion of this question (logically relating your points to evidence). (5 pts.)
