J. A. Glenn

I earned the BA degree at Walla Walla College and the MA and PhD degrees at the University of Notre Dame, where I majored in Old and Middle English Literature, with minor concentrations in Medieval Celtic Languages and Literatures and English Historical Linguistics. An Associate Provost and Professor of English at the University of Central Arkansas, I work with a wide range of academic issues within the university, including program development, accreditation processes, and policy review and implementation. My current research focuses on textual scholarship through my work with the early Scots prose works of the Hay Manuscript. The Scottish Text Society published my edition of Gilbert Hay's Buke of the Ordre of Knychthede and Buke of the Gouernaunce of Princis in 1993 and Buke of the Law of Armys in 2005; I expect my scholarly attention to be engaged for the next several years in further study of the French backgrounds of Hay's texts and in coming to understand relationships among the manuscript's three texts. As a medievalist, I maintain teaching and writing interests in an interdisciplinary array of concerns, including medieval canon and civil law, the alliterative and chivalric traditions in Middle English, and--though I am neither a theorist nor a philosopher--I maintain an active interest in the philosophy of literature.
