GOALS Students
will be able to · understand the history of grammar, which explains Standard English prescriptive rules rather than simply stating them · understand the history of writing, which explains the Western form of the essay · use specific linguistic tools (syntax) for teaching grammar and writing · understand language varieties and how language functions in a classroom setting · develop strategies for teaching students who speak and write non-standard language varieties · develop strategies for teaching spelling
