STUDENT SPEECH-LANGUAGE HEARING ASSOCIATIONS: Students are encouraged to join the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA), the Arkansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the UCA Chapter of NSSLHA.  Benefits of membership are outlined below:

  

The National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a national organization for students interested in the study of communication disorders.  There are many benefits involved with a NSSLHA membership including:

  • Students will receive NSSLHA’s biannual publication, Contemporary Issues in Communication Science and Disorder (CICSD)

  • Students will receive NSSLHA’s biannual newsletter, “News & Notes”

  •  Students receive a choice of one ASHA journal and access to online journals

  • Students will receive a reduced registration fee for the annual ASHA Convention

  •  Students are eligible for the NSSLHA credit card

  •  Professional liability, medical, and dental insurance is available through ASHA group plans

  •  The NSSLHA-ASHA conversion program provides significant savings on dues for your first year of ASHA membership and certification ($325 as opposed to full cost of $425)

  •  Students have access to ASHA’s Employment Referral System and Placement Center to learn about employers looking for quailified professionals 

 

All of these great benefits are available if you join NSSLHA!  The cost is $45 per year.  Applications can be downloaded from the NSSLHA website at www.nsslha.org or found on the shelves beside Dr. Logan’s office.  You must be a NSSLHA member for two consecutive years prior to receiving certification in order to benefit from the NSSLHA-ASHA conversion program.

 

The Arkansas Speech-Language Hearing Association (ArkSHA) is a professional organization dedicated to serving the needs of speech-language pathologists and audiologists by offering opportunities for professional growth, fostering interaction among professionals in the state, and maintaining high standards for education and service delivery.  ArkSHA is an affiliate of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.  The benefits of ArkSHA membership for students include:

 

                   ArkSHA Quarterly Newsletter;

 

                   Directory of membership;

 

                   Professional information network;

 

                   Professional visibility through participation; and

 

                   Reduced registration fee for the ArkSHA Annual Convention.

 

Dues are $20 per year.  Application forms can be downloaded at www.arksha.org or are available from Mrs. Ross or on the shelve outside Dr. Logan’s office.

 

The UCA NSSLHA Chapter is the local chapter which is recognized and conducted under the guidelines of the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association.  The department has had an active local chapter since 1974.  The UCA Chapter of NSSLHA has sponsored an annual conference on communication disorders and other related issues since 1983.  The chapter holds two meetings per month with one being a program meeting and the other being a business meeting.  The benefits of membership include:

 

                   Students get to know other UCA students;

 

                   Students can participate in socials;

 

                   Students pay a reduced registration fee for the Annual Spring Conference;   

 

                   Students have the opportunity to participate in community service projects;

 

                   Students can apply for book scholarships funded by the UCA NSSLHA.

 

 

  Dues are $16 per year.  Application forms are available from the department secretaries or on the shelf outside Dr. Logan’s office.
