1998-2004     CURICULUM COMMITTEE Chair, 2001-2002 

During my tenure on this committee, we have revised the goals and methods appropriate for both WRTG 1310: Introduction to College Writing and WRTG 1320: Academic Writing and Research. We also reviewed over a dozen new course proposals, the minor in linguistics proposal, and two graduate certificate programs: Technical and Professional Writing, and The Teaching of Writing. We have twice revised the list of appropriate texts and handbooks for instructors of composition. This past year, we have also reviewed the curriculum for the speech and public relations degrees and wrote the course reviews for SPCH 1300: Basic Oral Communications, WRTG 1310: Introduction to College Writing, WRTG 1320: Academic Writing and Research, and WRTG 2350: World Languages as required by the General Education Program. 1999-2003 SEARCH COMMITTEE Writing positions: three full-time, non-tenure track positions Speech positions: one tenure-track position, two full-time, non-tenure track positions (I chaired one of these)

This group is the chief planning and coordinating body of the department. Our charge was to create and revise policies, and devise 2, 5 and 10 year curriculum, personnel and budget plans.

Together with Dr. Bonita Selting, we planned and organized a one-day retreat on campus to discuss assessment measures with the Writing Department Faculty. 1999-present FACULTY LUNCHEONS Plan and organize end-of-the-semester faculty luncheons for the department.

1998-2000, 2003-06 RESEARCH COMMITTEE 

Appointed position. Our task was to review and rank college research proposals to be passed on to the University Research Council.

Elected position. Our task was to place department faculty onto various college committees.

Spring 2003 to present     TITLE III GRANT ADVISORY BOARD 

Appointed position.   I am the General Education representative on the Board. Our task is to review the progress of the Title III grant, discuss any implementation problems that may develop and align strategies of the project with the institution's priorities, goals, and objectives. 

2003-2006 PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD COMMITTEE 

Our task is to review nominations and choose the recipient of the Public Service Award each year. 

Spring 2002 JACK KENT COOKE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE 

Appointed position. Chair.  Our task was to advertise and collect nominations of outstanding students from faculty, review applications and choose one student to forward to the national competition. Our choice, Mr. Hayden Hennigsen, won one of prestigious 35 national scholarships. 

2002 SEARCH COMMITTEE 

Appointed position.  Our task was to choose the university's replacement for Director of Institutional Research. 

2001-2003 SABBATICAL LEAVE REVIEW COMMITTEE 

Appointed position.  Our task was to review faculty applications for sabbatical leave and reassigned time and make recommendations to the Provost. 

2000-2006 GENERAL EDUCATION COUNCIL 

Elected position. (re-elected fall 2003 to a second term) During my tenure on the General Education Council, our major accomplishments included establishing the skills each General Education course would emphasize, implementing the course review process and working with departments on assessment plans. We also reviewed new and revised course proposals and program changes. 

Subcommittee: Research. established objectives of the research skill area of general education courses.

 2001-2004 GENERAL EDUCATION ASSESSMENT 

Appointed position.  Last year, our task was to make General Education a more uniform, coherent program and review alternative methods of the Rising Junior Exam. 

1999-2001 BUDGET ADVISORY COMMITTEE 

Appointed position. Our task was to recommend the yearly budget to the President. 

2000-2002 FACULTY SENATE 

Elected position. I represented the College of Fine Arts and Communication until I was forced to resign when I took the position of Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies. 

Subcommittees: Committee of Academic Affairs I We researched and made recommendations concerning criteria for early tenure, conditions for hiring with tenure, and shortening the academic year.

This group met to identify what helped and hindered faculty in the grant writing process for Sponsored Programs.

Helped State Residential College students move in for the fall semester.

Fall 2003 College-Level Exam Program (CLEP) Freshman College Composition Judge , Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ 

My task is to participate in a study to aid the CLEP program in selecting a recommended credit-granting score for colleges and universities to use in giving entering first-year students credit in composition courses.

My task was to participate in a standard setting study to determine the appropriate difficulty of test questions for the CLEP in English Composition.

 In the event that a panel member cannot serve, I will read and make recommendations on fellowship applications from women outside of the US. 

1999-2000  to present, Reader, Advanced Placement Exam (English Language), Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ 

Each year in June, I go to Daytona Beach, FL for seven days to read and score essays written by high school students who hope to earn placement in advanced college courses.

As a Board member, our charge was to manage all of the affairs of the Faulkner County affiliate. As Secretary, my main duties included preparing minutes of all meetings, authenticating all records, writing reports as required by state law, filing documents with the regional office and performing various tasks as requested by the President. 

Building Committee, 2000-2002 

We planned and implemented the construction of homes, including obtaining plans, soliciting professional labor and donations of building materials, and supervising construction. 

Volunteer Labor Coordinator, 1999 to 2001 

My main job was to provide volunteers on site every week to build homes for families in need. I also recruited volunteers, maintained a list of community volunteers., and chaired the committee that plans and organizes the annual Volunteer Dinner.
