EDUC 1300 - Praxis I Requirement

 

The purpose of this requirement is to assess a student�s readiness for the Praxis I test, a requirement for admission into the teacher education program at UCA. Praxis I is a test of basic skills required for teacher licensure in Arkansas. Because it is a test of basic skills, it is a beneficial assessment for all students seeking a college degree.

1.) This requirement will be 15% of the final grade for all EDUC 1300 students.

2.) The Technology Learning Center (TLC) will conduct the simulated testing of the Praxis I.

3.) North Star Learning Software will also have software for the students to use as a study tool. All of the use for students is free. The Writing Center will be a good access point for utilizing this tool.

4.) The other study options are the Academic Success Center for mathematics and Criterion software ($15) for writing.

5.) The designated point system for the required 15% of the grade follows. Each of the three content areas (Writing, Math, Reading) will be worth 5% x3 = 15%.

5 %passed Praxis I or North Star Learning practice test at any point before the instructor�s deadline.

4 % � scored 63-69 on designated test

3 % � scored 56-62 on designated test

2 % � scored 45-55 on designated test

1 % � scored below 45 on designated test

0 % � did not take the test nor have evidence of doing any practice for the test

 

PLUS up to 4 percentage points may be added for remediation sessions by spending approximately 30 minutes per session and completing 20-40 items using various resources described by the instructor.
