French Canadian cuisine is described as Canadian pioneer food with French flavor many of the earliest recipes show that the early settlers knew how to make use of what was around them. In classic cuisine some common ingredients include: duck, goose, rabbit and maple syrup. Although food in Canada is not as much of a national obsession as in France, it is very important as it reflects their history as an immigrant nation and is an important part of the multiculturalism that they taste each day.
Some classic favorites in Canadian cuisine include: Cherries jubilee, Swedish pancakes, beef stroganoff, Peking duck, veal scaloppini, chicken Morney, Quebecoise tourtiere, and even roasted beaver tail, which according to sources is not as popular today, and could even be banned. Of course more traditional favorites include all types of fondues, souffles, crepes, and recipes involving rabbit, duck and goose.
When traveling to a foreign country, it is always helpful to know a little bit about the native language. Canada is a bilingual country, speaking both French and English, but if foreigners are going to blend in, it could be helpful in some of the smaller towns to know a little French.
