Guidelines
for Response Paper #4
- Watchmen-
|
- In a single essay, answer the following two questions
about the novel Watchmen:
|
- Which character is the story’s hero?
|
- Which character is the story’s villain?
|
|
B.
Be sure
to use the various ethical theories discussed in this course to support your
answer.
|
|
C.
Be sure
to use examples from the text to support your answers.
|
- Each essay is limited to three pages, typed, &
double-spaced (roughly 750 words). Note: It is unlikely your essay will
adequately address the questions asked in much under this length.
|
- Remember, your argument must demonstrate your familiarity
with the novel. That is, you must assert an answer the each question and
defend your reasoning regarding these answers.
|
- Fair warning: To claim there is no hero (or no villain)
is not an acceptable position – i.e., the assignment asks that you
commit to (and defend) placing this-rather-than-that Watchmen character in
each role.
|
- It is strongly recommended that students consult the
“Guide to Writing Philosophically” on the course web page.
