Core of the Course: Limits, continuity, derivative, rate of change, linear approximation, product, quotient and chain rules, implicit differentiation, related rates, curve sketching in rectangular and polar coordinates, optimization, indeterminate forms, antiderivatives.
Grading System:
- 5 best of 7 weekly half hour quizzes: 30%;
- Each midterm test: 20%;
- Final exam: 30%.

Grading formula:
G1 = 30% of 4 best Quizzes + 40% of 2 Tests + 30% of Final Exam;
G2 = 40% of 2 Tests + 60% of Final Exam;
G3 = 100% of Final Exam;
Final Grade = max{G1, G2, G3}.
There will be NO MAKE-UP quizzes, tests and final exam. If you miss a test, the final exam will count for 50%.
Exams: 7 quizzes and 2 midterm tests are scheduled below. Quizzes are about half hour and midterm tests are 50 minutes in class. Final Exam: TBA, two hours. Final exam is comprehensive, covering all materials from Chapter 1 to Chapter 4. The first hour will be devoted to the block common final exam while a test prepared by your instructor will be administered during the second hour. Calculators are allowed in quizzes, tests but NOT in the common part of final exam. We will not know the date and time of the final exam until some time in the middle of the quarter. WARNING: It will not be at the time listed in Learning Opportunites for your section and it could be at any time during finals week.
Homeworks: The suggested homeworks will not be collected and but you have to do them to achieve a good grade!
Tutoring: Free tutoring is available in the Mathematics Tutoring room (803 Old Chemistry) from 9-4 daily (until 2 p.m. on Friday).
