Using LabQuest

This lab is designed to introduce the students to automated data collection and analysis using the LabQuest system.  It should be done at the beginning of the semester, ideally during the first or second lab session.

It is not intended to explain the physical concepts of pressure or temperature, and the student handout makes no attempt at this.  The exercise is strictly to familiarize the students with the LabQuest system, and to give them experience navigating the screens, collecting data, storing multiple trials, and performing graphical analysis.

Student Objectives

  • Use the LabQuest to automatically collect data
  • Become familiar with different probes and sensors, and how to adjust their settings
  • Learn how to collect, store, and review multiple data sets
  • Determine and input appropriate data collection intervals
  • Analyze data graphically and perform curve-fitting
