- You are required to use the SMART Response XE clicker provided for you. You do not have to purchase a clicker, but you will be using a loaner clicker every single day. It's critical that you quickly get fluent with using the device. You must know your UCA student ID number; you will be required to sign in with it each day. The clicker system will only recognize you by your correct ID number.
- The Department of Physics and Astronomy is still in the process of pilot-testing this newly acquired system. While it has been reliable and accurate in its initial trials, please accept the possibility of an occasional glitch or hiccup. I might make a mistake, you might make an error, the hardware might miscommunicate with the software--I cannot predict when or how we might be affected.
- We will do everything we can to make sure that the technology does not disrupt the flow of the class. Please try to be patient and keep your sense of humor.
- You will never, ever get a single clicker point by coming up to me after class and saying, "I was here, but I forgot to grab a clicker. Can I at least have one point for every question I wasn't able to answer?" I'll try not to be mean, but I will probably laugh at you.
- I shouldn't have to say it, but experience tells me that I do: you may not have your friend grab a second clicker and click for you while you are still at home sleeping. If there are consistently only 24 people in the room, but I am consistently getting 48 responses to each question...well, I can always start requiring you to check out clickers with a picture ID. Neither one of us really wants it to get to that point.
- When you take quizzes and exams, you will be using the responder to submit your answers. However, you should always mark your papers as well before turning them in. While we don't anticipate anything bad happening, in the event that something unexpected does happen which results in data loss, you want it to be my problem (not yours). If you have marked your paper, then I have something to grade (and the inconvenience belongs to me). If you haven't marked your paper, and data gets lost, the inconvenience is yours: you will have no choice but to re-take the exam. I tell you three times, and what I tell you three times is true: Click and mark. Always.
