about

Dr. Tansel Halic received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree from Marmara University Computer Science Department. He later continued his research at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) and completed M.Sc. in Applied Science specialized in Applied Computing. During his studies at UALR, he worked on Augmented Reality Surgical Simulation Project, which was a collaborative multidisciplinary project with Neurosurgery Department at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

He completed his Ph.D. degree in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) where he contributed to several real-time and virtual reality based surgical simulations design, development and validation studies in collaboration with Harvard Medical School. He is an alumnus of The Center for Modeling, Simulation, and Imaging in Medicine(CeMSIM) in RPI. At RPI, he developed Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB) Simulation with his colleagues, which is the first and only virtual simulation of LAGB surgery in the world. He completed Ph.D. thesis on the design and development of Software Framework for Multimodal Interactive Simulation (SoFMIS©) which is a software platform for rapid development of multimodal simulations such as virtual reality surgical simulations.

Dr. Tansel Halic is an Associate Professor of Computer Science Department, at University of Central Arkansas, Conway, Arkansas.
