Procedural Notes

  • The Vernier circuit boards have 10Ω, 51Ω, and 68Ω resistors, plus some very high resistance (22kΩ) resistors. The old resistor plates have higher resistances; these plates can still be used successfully, they just aren't as shiny and new.
  • Heed all of the warnings about current and voltage limits. The current probes cannot be repaired, and they will be broken by currents in excess of 600mA. If you use the Instek DC power supply and limit the current, this will not be a problem for you or the students.
  • A data collection interval of 10 seconds is pretty long, and students should be told to dial up the voltage on the power supply slowly and smoothly.
