The core would be transparent to visible light, if you were somehow able to survive the temperature and pressure...
The radiative zone, however, would be opaque as the photons were continually (and randomly) absorbed/emitted/re-absorbed/re-emitted. It might 10,000 years (no kidding) for the energy to emerge from the radiative zone.
