Procedural Notes
- The syringe for Boyle's law works very well. Excellent data. Needs two people, though, since the plunger must be held in place at volumes less than about 10 ml.
- Make sure to clamp the tubing and the thermoprobe lead up and away from the metal beaker. If the plastic of the stopper valves remains in contact with the beaker, it will melt as the beaker approaches 80°C. Don't ask me how I know, I just do.
- Keep the metal thermoprobe from touching the metal beaker as it heats up. Keep the probe suspended in the water.
- Pressure v temperature data is very linear, but no point in trying to extract further meaning mathematically. Compare intercept to measured atmospheric pressure.
