Lecture Notes

Outlines for Chapters 00–13 are provided as .pdf documents. If the document does not open in your browser window, check your Downloads folder.

These are provided as a convenience for you, so that you do not have to try to frantically try to write down three bullet points before I advance to the next slide.  It would be a really good idea to print the outline before we start discussing the chapter.  There is space left on each page for you to make your own annotations and sketches.  You might, for example, use the space to jot down a question you had while you were reading.  Or maybe solve some example problems on the back of the pages.

You should not view the outline as a substitute for attending class.  It's not:  you get points for coming to class.  You don't get points for reading the outline.

I have also included some brief "Ask an Astronomer" videos that I think help explain dynamically some of the topics that book (by necessity) explains statically.

You will also find the clicker questions posted as we complete them.  Since we went over them in class, you should already have the answers.
